Modernism Week Today – 02.20.17

Modernism Week’s daily dispatch announcing available tickets and last minute news.

It’s a long weekend so get out there and enjoy this special day.  Tickets for today’s events are no longer available online but you can purchased on-site at CAMP or at the door for certain events.   Cash preferred at the door. Read on to see what you need to know about Modernism Week today!

CAMP

If you’re the owner of a midcentury home, don’t miss Atomic Ranch’s “Restoring or Renovating your Midcentury Modern Home” Seminar and Tour ($30 for the seminar or tour, $50 for both), starting at 10am at CAMP (Tour from 12pm to 4pm).  Standing room only for the seminar. Purchase tickets at the theater check-in at CAMP.  As the magical hour approaches, hang out for the Martini-Inspired Monday in the Ferguson Demonstration Kitchen from 5pm to 6pm.

Tours

Tickets are available at the door for the following home tours today.  Start your morning off with the Seven Lakes Country Club Home Tour.  The gated estate known as the “Gem of the Desert” is located behind The Parker ($60, cash preferred).  The Modernism Week Show House aka The Christopher Kennedy Compound and Chino Canyon Project are open daily from 9am to 4pm, accepting walk-up tickets throughout the day and credit cards accepted.

Talks

If you’re fascinated by Sunnylands, don’t miss this lecture on Mexican Modern Sunnylands at the Palm Springs Art Museum ($12).  Head to CAMP for a fascinating lecture on Moving Sam Maloof, one of the great masters of midcentury furniture design ($10).  Alfa Romeo will return next weekend to CAMP with the Ride Along Experience but don’t miss Stile Transatlantico: A Romance of Fins and Chrome, a presentation by Donald Osborne, noted Italian car expert, columnist, and television host at the Palm Springs Convention Center, part of the Modernism Week Vintage Car Show (free).

Shows & Exhibitions

Head to the Convention Center to catch the last day of the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale ($20) and stay for the Modernism Week Vintage Car Show (free).  At the Palm Springs Library, take in the FAST FORWARD Architecture William F. Cody exhibition, open daily ($10) but note it is closing early at 2pm for a ticketed reception.
