Meet the 2018 Fall Preview Mod Squad
@danidazey

Dani Nagel (aka Dani Dazey) is a graphic designer, fashion designer, photographer, and occasional interior decorator. She’s had an almost decade long career in apparel graphics and textile design working for large companies like Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. She founded vintage-inspired female empowerment brand Dazey LA in 2016 and quickly gained popularity and success via Instagram. Dazey celebrates female strength, bright colors, and that bold California aesthetic. In 2017 she co-founded and designed all-female co-working space in downtown LA which has been renowned for it’s eclectic interior and featured on design blogs such as The Jungalow. Nagel is a Southern California native whose mother grew up in Palm Springs. Just this year, Dani bought her first home there. The purchase of her William Krisel-designed retreat was inspired by her time at Modernism Week and her love of vintage, quirk, and color. After just a few short months of ownership it has already been featured by Domino and Airbnb. Dani’s life’s work is to inspire creativity and confidence in fellow females through her design and activism.

"I never anticipated my first home being a “second home”, but then I saw this little William Krisel-designed beauty. I grew up visiting Palm Springs often as it was my mother's home town and always had a soft spot for it. It wasn’t until I attended this past Modernism Week that I really gained an appreciation for the midcentury hub that Palm Springs is. I was already fascinated with that era in my design work and personal style, so naturally I feel in love with the architecture to match. My colorful gem Dazey Desert House is the perfect retreat to escape LA and really feel refreshed and inspired. It feels like living in a piece of art and time in history." - Dani Nagel

"As a creative I’ve always been inspired with all aspects and areas of design. Though I was trained in fashion design I fell into apparel graphics and then photography. Now I find myself fascinated with architecture and interiors. Weather it’s actually doing the decorating of a space or illustrating something inspired by a building or sign. Most of my clothing line Dazey L.A.'s summer collection was directly inspired by Palm Springs and it’s eclectic facades. One shirt has breeze blocks on it depicting the wall at The Parker, one was a play off of an old sign I saw at Dazzles, one was inspired by the orange oval wall you see at the 7 Springs, and The one you see here is an illustration of my very own home, Dazey Desert House! I believe you should never limit yourself and try it all." - Dani Nagel

"I love mixing mid century with unexpected pieces. There’s something about the clean and modern lines of MCM furniture paired with warm tones, bold prints, and cozy textiles. You want a space to welcome you in and make you curious. This wall is the show-stopper at my Dazey Desert House for those reasons. All the artwork you see was painted by my late grandmother and is a sort of homage to her life’s work. It celebrates vintage design with a modern and eclectic twist. Each piece you see is unique on it’s own, but magnificent together." - Dani Nagel

"I’m excited to be apart of a young generation that really appreciates the Modernist era. Of all the decades in design it is the most elegant and timeless. I hope we can continue to celebrate modernism for many years to come and honor the integrity and work of the original designers and artists. My work at Dazey LA aims to do just that!" - Dani Nagel

"My absolute favorite piece in my home is this 1960's Danish mid-century wall unit that we inherited from my grandparents. I love how it has changed so much since we've put it into our home but still has all of the same warmth and beauty that I would stare at every time I visited my grandparents as a child. My first mid-century love!" - Samantha Klein

"As you can see, I'm a bit of a collector. What do I collect, you may ask? Anything I see that I like, haha! Mainly I focus on 1950's and 1960's trinkets I collect from flea markets and estate sales. Tell me what you collect in the comments!" - Samantha Klein

Liz Martin left her career as a speech therapist in 2015 to start a lifestyle brand & blog, The Charleston Weekender. She offers products that help make every day feel more like the weekend and enjoys blogging about travel, interior decor, entertaining, and entrepreneurship. In 2017 Liz co-founded a brick and mortar shop in Charleston, S.C. which specializes in local goods and balloons! Her passion for helping women pursuing a similar path inspired Liz to offer Instagram consulting and social media management services. Liz will return to Modernism Week for a second time as part of our official Mod Squad, and share more of her colorful take on Palm Springs during Fall Preview. "Hi from Charleston Weekender! I have a lifestyle brand, blog, & balloon shop over on the East Coast, and I thankfully discovered Palm Springs/Modernism Week back in 2016. I’m thrilled to be part of the #PSModSquad again & to get to share my outsider perspective of what Modernism means to me! First and foremost, it’s the celebration of an era that inspires & energizes me more than any other time period. I could endlessly peruse the amazing homes & doors of Palm Springs, and the Modernism Week home & garden tours give you the opportunity to do exactly that!" - Liz Martin

"Modernism Week has a dreamy way of transporting me to another time, where pool parties and entertaining were likely a natural part of every day living. Modernism Week assists with this resurgence by offering THE most fabulous lineup of events I’ve ever witnessed (pertaining to midcentury design and culture). There are sure to be plenty of poolside cocktail parties for us to partake in this October 18-21! I’m also already looking forward to the Aqualillies synchronized swimming shows happening during Mod Week at the Acme House Company's West Elm house. Here I am enjoying a show with my friend Kelly Golightly at Atomic Hummingbird recently." - Liz Martin

"A 'Weekender' is a person who attempts to make every day feel the weekend, and temporarily inhabiting a Palm Springs abode helps me do exactly that! Opting to stay in a midcentury home (like Beverly Modern) is a must. There is no better way to experience the culture of Modernism and enjoy the authentic midcentury decor. Fun fact: If you have ever wondered where the inhabitants of #TheChristopherKennedyCompound live while their home is being used as a show house, they often reside in an Acme House Company home like this one." - Liz Martin

"The highlight of Modernism Week is most often touring the Modernism Week Show House: The Christopher Kennedy Compound, which is always a design lover’s dream. Palm Canyon Drive is home to an abundance of great shops, which now includes Christopher Kennedy's store & design studio as well. Stop by so you can pick up cheerful decor elements to add some modernist flair to your own abode. By the way, I am so thrilled that Christopher Kennedy is now carrying my line of Turkish towels, which was a natural fit with all of the gorgeous pools around town! Fun fact: Turkish towels used to be sold at many department stores in the US back in the 50s and 60s, so I’m working on helping them make a comeback!" - Liz Martin
